TIE Blog 2

I finished my voicethread on April 4th. To my surprise it went really well. The students understood exactlly what to do. I think what really helped me was that I went the day before to the classroom to practice with the students and teach them how to use the voicethread. Since they're so little I had to practice with them a few times before they got the hang of how to use the comment by using the doodle and by learning how to change the color. I also taught them how to choose an identity which they understood how to do very quickly.

When it was time for them to go to their groups they were excited to do the voicethread. I was proud that they all did a great job without any help. Looking through the final voicethread I could see that the student did an excellent job in choosing the correct answer, there were a few students that made some small mistakes.

As you can see from the voicethread, the last slide where it has a chart...was blank because I added it to the voicethread afterwards. I was planning to do this slide another day with the students but I wasn't able to do it. But I still left it on the voicethread so you can see another idea of what the students could do. The idea was for them to draw the stages of the butterfly correctlly or comment by using the voice comment to explain the stages of the life-cycle of the butterfly.

Doing this voicethread I could see that it takes alot of planning to do a good voicethread. It also takes practice and making sure that everything works well on each computer. Overall, I think it is a great idea to incorporate it in the classroom a few times, that way students are able to learn the different types of technology that is out there.

Here's the finished product!(:

  1. Great job Rebecca! I understand what you mean Voice Thread was a challenge for our PreK students but of course nothing impossible. I was also only able to use the doodling feature with my students mainly because once they got the microphone they were extremely to shy to record. I liked how your voice thread worked as an assessment at the end of the thematic unit for that week. I would have been good to have the students draw in the last slide like you had originally had planned but yes like you said sometimes its just hard to do everything we want to do in the classroom and we have to manage it all well. Overall great Voice Thread! :)

  2. VERY creative uses for the doodle tool feature, AND for such a young age level! I'm glad to see you have confidence that your PK students could do this and with a minimal pre-lesson from you!
